Link: Boijmans van Beuningen - Home. Went to Rotterdam yesterday to see, 'Robert Crumb: a chronicle of modern times', at the Boijmans. While this was a very nice exhibit, i was more surprised by one of their

installations. At the entrance to the museum a huge wall is build, stuffed with all different pieces of art from the vaults of the museum. Having no particular order or theme, it does great work in showing the depths of the collection. In front of the wall are three plexiglass screens on which a projection in outlines of the part of the wall in front of you is shown. Standing in front of one of these screens with a motion sensor above your head,
you can move the projection over the screen, and thus show more of the wall. Touching one of the outlines of the work zooms you in to the particular piece and depending on the piece,
  • gives detailed audio and visual explanation,
  • shows more items like this one (in the series or within this type or art),
  • shows more info about the artist and its timeframe.
Apart from feeling like Tom Cruise, moving these images around, i found it quite a exciting way to play with art... Too bad it was to dark there to take good pictures. I found this photo online. For nice ways to navigate through a museums collection, also take a look at ArtStart. update 6/9: and don't forget this one to....British Library (requires shockwave)
