Kings of Pastry | 16 Chefs. 3 Days.

Watching this right now.... French påtissiers battling for the honorary title MOF. Never could have imagined moving pastry from kitchen to table could be so nervewrecking (for dutch viewers on uitzending gemist (http://www.hollanddoc.nl/kijk-luister/documentaire/k/kings-of-pastry.html))

10mph

Media_httppetercopper_ibiba

Having heard about this movie over the last couple of years I have now finally seen it. In 2004, two guys, 'fed up' with their corporate jobs decided to change their lives, at least for some time....they bought (great scene when a sponsordeal goes sour...) two Segway's and went coast (Seattle) to coast (Boston) through the USA at 10mph.The trip is documented in 10mph; what a great movie! Inspiring story, beautiful shots of the country and a great insight into a USA we don't see that much of...So, leave now and view 10mph! Register at OurStage and view the movie through them (the makers get 1$ per downloaded movie) or buy the dvd. PS: Not convinced? See the trailer first....

Popaanzee

Media_httpstaticflick_jnied
Went to Vlissingen this weekend (good way to test the new wheels) to visit the Bandstafette during the PopaanZee festival. Nice idea: give local bandmembers a cd with one song, give them a bit of time to rehearse and put them in a new band on the day of the concert: gives way to exciting combinations like the singer from a punkrock band who needs to sing Tom Jones for instance... Hannes' dad and brother performed this night, and he also made some nice pictures...

After that we enjoyed an hour long of Test...one..two..three...: a journey through 50 years of popmusic, played by local band Copy Cat. They put a compilation of the show online (and it seems they are going to put out a DVD of this also).

Farewell Concert Sesame Stress

Last saturday I went to JC Totum (JC as in Dutch for clubhouse/youthcenter..., not the son of the guy above, or number 14) to witness the last concert of Sesame Stress (bandsite). Chris, the singer of the band, is a college-friend and newmedia-colleague (seeing him grunt his colon out in front of a hundred screaming kids is more fun knowing he is webcasting the shareholders meeting of ING the next day...). Sample of their music here

(Rock me) Amadeus

Media_httpstaticflick_dgtfg
Went to the Stadsschouwburg yesterday to see Amadeus, the dutch version of the play by Peter Schaffer. All preparation for the long haul (did good eating/went to the toilet beforehand ;-) were in vain; the three hours the play took went by like five minutes. We all know the story; a bittered Salieri (wiki), preparing for suicide, is looking back on his life. A life centering for the last decennia on finding ways to keep the way more talented Mozart little. Why? Salieri, believing that God has placed him on earth to translate the divine voice in music and God making him the greatest compopser on earth, sees the favor of the man above moving from him to Mozart. God has abanded him! His serving of God changes to a war, he becomes determined to strike back at God by silencing his instrument. At the same time he is very much touched by that instrument, and becoming more and more aware of his own shortcomings or mediocriacy (not just in composing, but also in the fierceness with which Mozart leads his life (the life Salieri could have had); adultering and drinking) Jeroen Krabbé stages a magnificent Salieri, while Marc-Marie Huijbregts as a hysterical and emotionally instable Mozart combines his musical talent with the cabaresque. All sold out...wait for the DVD! In the meanwhile you could watch the almost equally impressive movie based on the same play.

Maceo Parker - Tivoli 12/10/2005

Media_httpstaticflick_ibedd
Forgot to mention the Maceo Parker-show Hannes, Otto and I visited mid-October. Had never seem him live, but boy, did he groove....! Great (2.5 hours!!) show in a sold out Tivoli, with enough chance for all the very very talented musicians surrounding him to take a place in the spotlight. Mr Parker's name may be on the posters, but man, did the other guys play (or sing)! If you got a chance to see them (playing in France in November)...please do so. Not? Then at least buy the album

Fun Lovin Criminals

Media_httpstaticflick_vhyzt
Looks like the FLC is touring the Netherlands on a regular basis. This time it was in conjunction with the release of their new album, Livin in the City, which has been in heavy rotation in my car, on my Ipod and at home. Paradiso in Amsterdam was the place to be on the 29th of September..at least for anyone with an solid interest in hip-hop, funk, blues and rock. I was there with the regular going-to-a-concert-crew (even though Mattias could make it... again.....) and we had a great time.... Solid rockers accompanied by oldies from the groove department combined with the new Caribbean flavoured songs. Great fun as ever, and i even snapped some pictures with my new camera (from the balcony, so not very sharp). Some short movies are coming...when I remember the password to the FTP..in the meantime check for way better quality Fabchannel

Tiger Lillies

Media_httpstaticflick_grjeb
Saw The Tiger Lillies in Utrecht this friday. Excellent perfomance by a musicial trio, led by quite an absurd pinguin-esce accordeonist, accompanied by a drummer and bass-player of equal crazyness. Beautifull songs about live on the sideline, death and doom. Best part: the show was completed by some 7 acrobats/jongleurs/circuspeople.....the snakewoman was my personal favourite, but the girl in the rope was also awesome. They are currently performing in the Netherlands, and after that on to US of Americas. See 'm while you can (schedule)!
